Rags & Feathers

Symbolics

Singer/songwriter Tom Davis brought the band together to play his songs. He found them in various bars and bands in Glasgow, and asked if they could spare him a couple of hours a week. He wanted to make a rich and beautiful sound a world apart from the raucous blues rock of his previous band Dead Fly Buchowski. He had just returned from a short time in Liverpool, where he had been inspired by young artists such as Eugene McGuinness and John Smith to follow a folk and roots based style of music. His songs attempt to marry infectious melody and deep lyricism, sweetness with melancholia. With singer/songwriter Andrea Tomlinson (of sweet folk duo the Metro-Gnomes) on board, the band called itself Rags & Feathers after a Leonard Cohen lyric and took to the stage. Whilst sometimes varying in numbers, the maximum line up is five, and as well as Tom & Andrea, comprises Ian Moy on bass and lead guitar, Doug MacGregor on drums and Duncan Thomas on everything else.

Since summer 07 the band have established themselves as one of the most promising folk/pop/indie bands in Scotland and have performed alongside A Hawk & A Hacksaw, Woodpigeon, Jeff Lewis & The Jitters and Eugene McGuinness amongst others.
